Superman Movie Review: A Promising Reboot
Finally, the DC Universe seems to be finding its footing with this latest Superman reboot! Both the storyline and visuals are truly outstanding.
I made a special trip to see it in IMAX 3D, and it was absolutely worth every penny. When Superman flies around, the camera follows him, creating an incredibly immersive experience. It felt like I was right there with him.
The plot delves into many ethical considerations. It raises questions like: should someone with superpowers be able to act outside of government authority and become a law unto themselves? And what does it mean to be human? Humans are constantly unpredictable and often make mistakes, but "your actions, your choices" shape who we are today.
Every aspect of this film felt multi-dimensional, from the visuals to the character development. Even the villain, Lex, is portrayed with depth. He has his own background and isn't just a one-sided character intent on destroying the world.
Also, a clear message: don't mess with dogs! Even Superman can lose his rationality. When will we get a movie about cats?
My only criticism is the director's song selection in this installment; it doesn't quite measure up to the excellent soundtracks of Guardians of the Galaxy.
I'd give this movie an 8.5/10. It's definitely a film you need to see in IMAX to fully appreciate. Watching it on your sofa at home wouldn't provide the same immersive experience, so there's still room for improvement.
Synopsis
Follows the titular superhero as he reconciles his heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views this as old-fashioned.
