Synopsis

In 480 B.C., the "God-King" Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his colossal Persian army sweep across Greece, demanding total submission from its city-states. Facing a direct threat to his people’s way of life, King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) of Sparta defies the corrupt politicians and religious oracles of his home to take a stand.

Since the law forbids the full Spartan army from mobilizing, Leonidas recruits a "personal bodyguard" of 300 elite warriors to march to the narrow coastal pass of Thermopylae—the "Hot Gates." There, they use the terrain to funnel the Persian millions into a bottleneck, turning a suicide mission into a legendary test of endurance. As the 300 Spartans face waves of immortals, monsters, and war elephants, back in Sparta, Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) fights a different battle against political betrayal to secure the reinforcements her husband needs.
