Synopsis

Amazing Grace is a documentary concert film that chronicles the live recording of Aretha Franklin's 1972 gospel album of the same name. Directed by Sydney Pollack, the footage was shot over two nights at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles. The film captures Franklin at the height of her powers as she returns to her gospel roots, backed by the Southern California Community Choir and led by Reverend James Cleveland.

The film is a raw and immersive experience, placing the viewer directly in the pews of the church. Franklin, while a commanding presence, is largely silent between songs, allowing her powerful, soul-stirring voice to be the focus.
