Synopsis

The film follows the high-stakes, low-dignity world of competitive dog breeding as five diverse sets of owners descend upon Philadelphia for the prestigious Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show.

Among the colorful contenders are Gerry and Cookie Fleck (Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara), a couple plagued by Cookie’s endless list of ex-boyfriends; Harlan Pepper (Christopher Guest), a bloodhound enthusiast with a talent for ventriloquism; and Meg and Hamilton Swan (Parker Posey and Michael Hitchcock), high-strung yuppies terrified that their Weimaraner is depressed. As the competition heats up, the owners’ neuroses take center stage, proving that while the dogs are purebred, their humans are anything but.
