Blue Has No Borders

Synopsis

The documentary film Blue Has No Borders explores the complexities of English identity and the search for community in a post-Brexit Britain. The story is centered on the coastal town of Folkestone, a place of iconic white cliffs that also serves as a frontline for the UK's ongoing migrant crisis.

After moving to Folkestone, Gutch sets out to make a film about the town's social and psychological divisions. The film, however, evolves into something more intimate as she gets to know her neighbors. The documentary follows six local characters, each with a different perspective on their community and country. These include a Syrian refugee, a working-class Brexiteer and former military man, a non-binary drag queen, a Black artist who grew up in the town, and two fishermen struggling to keep their industry alive.

Through their personal stories, the film navigates the tensions of class, race, and politics that have defined modern Britain. Rather than presenting a simplistic "us vs. them" narrative, Blue Has No Borders is a nuanced and compassionate look at how a diverse group of people, despite their differences, might still find common ground and hope for a more inclusive future.
