Everything Must Go
Synopsis
Nick Halsey is a career salesman whose life completely unravels in a single day when his chronic alcoholism leads to him getting fired from his job of sixteen years. Returning home to his suburban neighborhood, he finds that his locks have been changed, his bank accounts are frozen, and his wife has abandoned him, leaving all of his worldly possessions scattered across the front lawn. Stranded and with nowhere else to go, Nick decides to camp out on his own grass, surrounding himself with the physical remnants of his failed life. To bypass local loitering laws, he recruits an isolated local teenager named Kenny to help him organize a massive garage sale, effectively putting his past on display for the entire neighborhood. Through this forced public purging and an budding friendship with a pregnant new neighbor, Nick is pushed to confront his deep-seated demons and find the strength to start anew. Dan Rush's touching and melancholic dramedy provides a superb, dramatic performance from Will Ferrell.
