Synopsis

In this visceral H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, obsessive scientist Dr. Edward Pretorius and his assistant Crawford Tillinghast develop the Resonator, a device designed to stimulate the pineal gland and expand human perception. The experiment succeeds all too well, opening a gateway to a terrifying parallel dimension filled with shape-shifting predators and carnal horrors. After Pretorius is decapitated by an unseen entity, Tillinghast is institutionalized for murder, only to be released into the custody of psychiatrist Katherine McMichaels. Driven by scientific curiosity and latent desires, Katherine insists on returning to the gothic laboratory to reactivate the machine. As the barrier between worlds dissolves, the survivors find themselves hunted by a mutated, transcendent Pretorius and nightmare creatures from the beyond. Blending grotesque practical effects with psychosexual themes, the film explores the high price of forbidden knowledge and the thin line between evolutionary breakthrough and total madness.
