Synopsis
Set within the majestic, hushed corridors of Italy's grandest palaces, La Grazia follows Mariano De Santis, a fictional and devoutly Catholic President of the Italian Republic, as he enters the twilight of his term. A widower haunted by the past and a jurist committed to the law, De Santis finds his final days in office complicated by two deeply sensitive petitions for presidential pardon. These cases—moral dilemmas involving acts of ultimate sacrifice and mercy—become inextricably tangled with his own private grief and his relationship with his daughter, Dorotea. As the nation watches, the President must navigate a labyrinth of doubt, political pressure, and religious conscience to decide what constitutes true justice. Directed by Paolo Sorrentino and reuniting him with a majestic Toni Servillo, the film is a restrained, poetic meditation on responsibility, the nature of clemency, and the quiet weight of a legacy built on the difficult choices that define a human life.
