Hackers
Synopsis
In 1988, eleven-year-old computer prodigy Dade Murphy is arrested by the Secret Service for crashing thousands of Wall Street systems, earning a strict ban from using computers or touch-tone phones until his eighteenth birthday. Years later, having recently relocated to New York City with his mother, a freshly un-banned Dade easily finds a home among an eccentric high school subculture of brilliant elite teenage hackers. Among them are the fiercely competitive Kate Libby, the colorful phone-freak Phantom Phreak, Lord Nikon, and the hyperactive Cereal Killer. The group's dynamic takes a highly dangerous turn when a novice member inadvertently downloads a portion of a highly classified corporate file from a massive mining conglomerate's mainframe. Unknown to them, the file contains damning evidence of a multi-million-dollar internal embezzlement scam masterminded by the company's corrupt head of security, an elite malicious hacker known as The Plague. Framed for an industrial sabotage plot capable of triggering an environmental cataclysm, Dade and his friends must unite to execute a massive, global cyber-offensive to clear their names and expose the real criminal.
