Hadestown: The Musical
Synopsis
Recorded live at the Lyric Theatre in London, Hadestown: The Musical captures Anaïs Mitchell's acclaimed, Tony Award-winning Broadway musical on screen. The show intertwines two legendary tales from Greek mythology: the tragic romance between the young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and the turbulent, strained marriage of King Hades and his wife Persephone. In a harsh, poverty-stricken world suffering from erratic climate shifts and perpetual winter, the hopeless Eurydice is lured to the industrial underworld of Hadestown by Hades, who offers security in exchange for labor. Devastated, Orpheus sets out on a harrowing journey to the underworld to rescue his true love. Armed only with his musical talents and guidance from the god Hermes, Orpheus attempts to soften Hades' cold heart and lead Eurydice back to the land of the living.
