Synopsis
In 1962 Baltimore, pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on the local TV hit, The Corny Collins Show. Against all odds and the machinations of the snobbish Amber Von Tussle, Tracy wins a spot on the program and becomes an overnight celebrity. Using her newfound platform, Tracy sets out to challenge the show's rigid racial segregation policies, advocating for integration with the help of her agoraphobic mother Edna and her friends from detention. As the Miss Auto Show 1963 pageant approaches, the battle for the crown becomes a fight for social change. John Waters delivers a vibrant, kitschy, and heart-filled musical comedy that celebrates individuality and progress, featuring iconic performances and a legendary soundtrack that captures the spirit of the sixties.
