Synopsis

Raised as Hansel in East Berlin, a sensitive young man falls for an American soldier and undergoes a gender reassignment operation to legally marry and escape to the West. However, the procedure is botched, leaving Hansel with nothing but a one-inch mound of flesh—the 'Angry Inch.' Now living in a Kansas trailer park as the glam-rock diva Hedwig, she forms a band and tours the country, performing in seafood restaurants while stalking her former protégé and lover, Tommy Gnosis, who has become a world-famous rock star using the songs he stole from her. Through a series of high-energy musical numbers and poignant reflections, Hedwig searches for her 'other half' and her true identity.
