Synopsis
In the wake of the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy, New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison (Kevin Costner) initially accepts the Warren Commission's finding that Lee Harvey Oswald was a "lone nut" assassin. However, years later, Garrison reopens the case after discovering a web of inconsistencies and mysterious links between Oswald and a group of New Orleans-based anti-Castro activists and intelligence assets.
As Garrison’s obsession grows, he faces immense pressure from the media and the federal government to stand down. His investigation leads him to a high-stakes courtroom battle against businessman Clay Shaw (Tommy Lee Jones) and a clandestine meeting in Washington with a shadowy deep-state informant known only as Mr. X (Donald Sutherland). Garrison eventually posits a staggering theory: that JFK was the victim of a coup d’état orchestrated at the highest levels of the U.S. government to ensure the escalation of the Vietnam War.
