Kung Fu Hustle

Synopsis

Set in 1930s Shanghai, Sing is a petty, down-on-his-luck crook desperate to join the notorious and feared Axe Gang. To prove his tough guy credentials, Sing and his bumbling sidekick pretend to be gang members to extort the residents of Pigsty Alley, a run-down tenement neighborhood. However, their extortion attempt backfires spectacularly when the seemingly ordinary impoverished tenants turn out to be retired kung fu masters possessing incredible martial arts abilities. When the actual Axe Gang arrives to seek retribution, a massive war breaks out between the gangsters and the hidden masters. Caught in the middle, Sing is forced to confront his own conscience and choose between his criminal ambitions and his true destiny as a legendary martial artist.
