Lady Bird

Synopsis

Set in Sacramento, California, in 2002, the story follows the self-named "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan), a strong-willed and artistically inclined high school senior who is desperate to escape her "boring" hometown for a prestigious college on the East Coast.

As she navigates the ups and downs of her final year at a Catholic high school—including first loves with the sweet Danny (Lucas Hedges) and the pretentious Kyle (Timothée Chalamet)—Lady Bird is in a constant, loving, and often explosive battle with her mother, Marion (Laurie Metcalf). Marion is a tireless nurse struggling to keep the family afloat after Lady Bird’s father loses his job. Through prom, college applications, and shifting friendships, Lady Bird must learn to reconcile her desire for independence with the profound realization that her home and her mother have shaped who she is.
