Synopsis

Stella and Gerry, a retired couple from Belfast, travel to Amsterdam for a long weekend in the middle of winter. As they navigate the cold, historic city, the cracks in their long-standing marriage begin to widen. Stella, a devout Catholic, is contemplating a life-changing decision that could lead her away from the marriage, while Gerry, struggling with an increasing dependence on alcohol, remains oblivious to the depth of her dissatisfaction. Over the course of four days, the memories of their past, including the trauma of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, surface and force them to confront the reality of their relationship. Midwinter Break is a poignant and nuanced exploration of love, faith, and the complexities of human connection in the twilight years.
