Pan's Labyrinth

Synopsis

In post-Civil War Spain, 1944, a young girl named Ofelia moves with her pregnant, ailing mother Carmen to a remote military outpost in the mountains. Her new stepfather, Captain Vidal, is a ruthless and cruel Falangist officer determined to hunt down anti-fascist rebels hiding in the surrounding forest. Seeking refuge from the terrifying violence of her real world, Ofelia discovers an ancient, overgrown stone labyrinth near the estate. Guided by a mysterious creature known as the Faun, she learns she may be the reincarnation of a lost underworld princess. To reclaim her true identity and royal throne, Ofelia must successfully complete three daunting and dangerous magical tasks before the full moon. As the brutality of Vidal's campaign escalates around her, Ofelia risks everything in a dark and breathtaking battle between real-world fascism and mythical magic.
