Synopsis
Socially awkward freshman Charlie enters high school in 1991 feeling isolated and harboring suppressed trauma from past grief and personal struggles. His life changes dramatically when he meets two charismatic senior step-siblings, the free-spirited Sam and her outspoken brother Patrick. Welcoming him into their tight-knit group of eccentric friends, they introduce Charlie to new music, friendship, romance, and the vibrant highs and lows of adolescence. Guided by their warmth and encouragement, as well as the support of his caring English teacher Mr. Anderson, Charlie begins to find a sense of belonging and learns to navigate the complexities of growing up. However, as his new friends prepare for college and unaddressed traumatic memories resurface, Charlie must confront his painful past and psychological struggles to truly heal and embrace his future.
