Pretty Red Dress
Synopsis
Set in South London, Pretty Red Dress follows Travis, a Black man who has newly been released from prison. Upon returning home, he discovers that his partner Candice has managed to land an audition for a coveted role playing a singer in a major new musical. To celebrate and support her dreams, Travis purchases a stunning, vibrant red dress for Candice. However, the dress quickly becomes a lightning rod of tension within the household when Travis finds himself unexpectedly drawn to it, secretly trying it on in private. This hidden desire forces him to confront deep-seated internal notions of masculinity, identity, and personal expression within his community. As secrets begin to unspool, Travis, Candice, and their teenage daughter Kenisha are pushed to re-examine their relationships and learn what it truly means to love someone unconditionally. Dionne Edwards' poignant and soulful debut feature film handles complex contemporary themes with incredible warmth, humour, and a memorable soundtrack.
