Prima Facie
Synopsis
Tessa Ensler is a brilliant, fierce young defense barrister who has clawed her way up from working-class roots to the top of the legal profession. She takes immense pride in her ability to dissect cross-examinations and win cases by ruthlessly exploiting loopholes and the strict burden of proof within the criminal justice system. However, her unwavering faith in the law is shattered when she is sexually assaulted by a colleague. Forced to navigate the legal system not as an advocate, but as a victim demanding justice, Tessa finds herself subjected to the very cross-examination tactics and institutional biases she once used so effectively. As she fights to reclaim her voice, she comes face-to-face with a legal system designed by men, putting the patriarchal definition of truth on trial.
