Rosebush Pruning
Synopsis
In a brutalist mansion secluded deep within the woods under the Catalonian sun, American siblings Jack, Ed, Anna, and Robert live in complete isolation. Wallowing in their massive inherited fortune, they routinely ignore the demands of their irascible, blind father, choosing instead to seek love and validation through each other and an endless parade of impossibly expensive designer clothes. The fragile peace of their gilded cage begins to fracture when Jack, the eldest brother and emotional linchpin of the family, announces his plans to leave the estate and move in with his free-spirited girlfriend, Martha. This catalyst severs delicate blood ties, driving the skittish and cynical Ed to uncover the horrifying truth surrounding their mother's tragic and bizarre death. As generation-spanning lies unravel, the family's deep-seated savagery and suppressed grief push them toward complete moral decay. Loosely inspired by Marco Bellocchio's 1965 masterpiece Fists in the Pocket, this stylish and aggressive satirical thriller deconstructs the absurdities of extreme patriarchal wealth.
