The Babadook

Synopsis

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia is at a loss as she struggles to discipline her Sam, a six-year-old she finds impossible to love. Sam's dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing pop-up storybook titled Mister Babadook turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he's been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control and he becomes increasingly unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son's behavior, begins to realize that the sinister presence Samuel has been warning her about might be more than just a figment of his imagination. As the house becomes a claustrophobic trap, she must confront her own deep-seated grief and the darkness within to protect her son from a malevolence that grows stronger every time its name is spoken.
