Synopsis
Set in 15th-century Joseon, The King's Warden tells the poignant story of the young King Danjong, who is violently deposed by his power-hungry uncle and sent into exile in a remote mountain village. Heung-do, a clever village chief who initially hopes to profit from hosting a high-ranking aristocrat, is stunned to find himself the guardian of the fallen monarch. As the teenage king grapples with despair and constant political threats from the capital, an unexpected bond forms between the cynical villager and the despondent sovereign. Blending historical tragedy with moments of human warmth, the film explores themes of loyalty, survival, and the courage of ordinary people caught in the crossfire of royal ambition. As political dangers close in, Heung-do must decide how far he is willing to go to protect the young man who was once his king.
