The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!
Synopsis
The luxuriantly bearded but chronically inept Pirate Captain harbors a lifelong dream: to finally win the prestigious Pirate of the Year Award and silence his mockery-filled rivals, Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz. Armed with boundless optimism and backed by a loyal, rag-tag crew of misfits—including the faithful Pirate with a Scarf and the Surprisingly Curvaceous Pirate—the Captain takes to the high seas to plunder enough treasure to secure the prize. However, after a series of hilariously disastrous ambushes on non-traditional vessels, they board an ocean vessel containing no gold, but rather a young, eccentric scientist named Charles Darwin. Darwin quickly realizes that the Captain's beloved, portly ship's parrot, Polly, is actually the last surviving dodo on Earth. Persuading the crew to sail to Victorian London to display the specimen for fame and fortune, the pirates must embark on a dangerous adventure directly into the territory of the fiercely anti-pirate Queen Victoria. Peter Lord's delightful, stop-motion Aardman comedy treats families to a clever swashbuckling romp full of witty, historical satire.
