The Summer Book
Synopsis
Set on a tranquil and remote island in the Gulf of Finland, The Summer Book is an intimate, poetic portrait of an intergenerational family coming to terms with loss. The story follows nine-year-old Sophia, her practical father, and her eccentric, wise grandmother as they spend a transformative seasonal retreat at their rustic home. Still deeply grappling with the recent death of Sophia's mother, the family navigates their shared grief in vastly different ways. Through daily adventures across the untamed Nordic landscape, wandering through tidal pools and enduring sudden coastal storms, Sophia and her grandmother forge an incredibly profound and delicate bond. Beautifully capturing both the innocence of youth and the quiet vulnerability of old age, this gentle, character-driven drama finds an uplifting sense of life, wonder, and emotional renewal amidst the backdrop of an untamed natural world.
