The Yellow Tie

Synopsis

This biographical drama explores the extraordinary life and artistic journey of legendary Romanian classical music conductor Sergiu Celibidache. Defying his strict father's demands to pursue a conventional career, young Sergiu leaves home to follow his passion for music, enduring severe poverty, exile, and the horrors of wartime Germany. Through unyielding dedication and a refusal to compromise his artistic principles, he rises to international acclaim, leading major European orchestras. Known for his controversial refusal to record his performances—believing true music could only be experienced live in the moment—Celibidache continuously clashes with the commercialized music industry. Spanning several decades, the film captures his turbulent personal relationships, his deep devotion to his craft, and his lifelong struggle to balance family expectations, political danger, and uncompromising creative freedom.
