Two Prosecutors

Synopsis

In the height of Stalin’s Great Purge, an idealistic young prosecutor named Alexander Kornyev (Aleksandr Kuznetsov) discovers a desperate letter written in blood by a political prisoner. Driven by a belief in the law, Kornyev attempts to investigate the case, only to find himself descending into a Kafkaesque nightmare of bureaucratic madness.

His quest for the truth leads him from grim provincial prisons to the corridors of power in Moscow, where he eventually confronts the formidable Prosecutor General, Andrey Vyshinsky. As the walls of the totalitarian machine close in, Kornyev is forced to realize that in a world ruled by terror, the pursuit of justice is the ultimate act of treason.
